How to defrost a frozen condensate boiler pipe
You may be able to thaw a frozen condensate pipe without having to call a professional for a repair service, simply follow the guidelines below.
Thawing your condensate pipe…
- Use hot water, not boiling, but water heated by a kettle or in a microwave, then pour it over the end of the pipe where it’s frozen using a suitable container as a watering can.
- Hold a hot water bottle or heat wrap around the condensate pipe.
- Once the pipe has thawed you should then reset your boiler by holding in the reset button for 10 seconds and then wait for the boiler to refire.
Warning, do not do the following…
- Do not attempt to thaw a condensate pipe above waist level, disconnect the condensate pipe in order to do so.
- Never attempt to access the condensate pipe or any other pipework within the boiler.
- Beware of ice on the ground that may form the water you’ve poured.
