Tips for Saving Water in The Home

Solutions Plumbing & Heating have 4 of the most important changes you will need to make in order to save the water usage in your home. They are easily changed and adapted for your own use and our team personally believe that they will help you to cut down on how much water your whole home uses.

1. Baths to Showers

With an average bath using up close to 30 gallons of water, showers are seen as much more suitable as they take up to 25 gallons for a 10 minute shower with a standard shower head or 20 gallons on a low-flow shower head. A small change like this can save gallons of water across your whole family and is much more environmentally friendly too.

2. Monitor Your Water Usage

It is very common to over-use water when washing the dishes or brushing your teeth. Without thought, you can leave the tap running away when it’s not actually needed. Simply turn off the tap when you have enough water for washing up or turn it on only when you need the water on your toothbrush. It may not sound like a lot, but over time is can equate to gallons of unnecessarily used water.

3. Washing Up

Washing the dishes itself can take up a lot of water. There are two ways to combat this, either by leaving all the dishes in the sink until you have a full sink or upgrade to a dish washer. Dish washers themselves are brilliant as they can wash your dishes and water-smart washers are also energy efficient. Either way, our main piece of advice would be to wait until you have a full load of dishes before you wash them as this will reduce your water usage massively.

4. Are You a Super Saver?

Now, if you’re really keen to do your bit, our last bit of advice would be to recycle water as oppose to using freshwater. Not for your own use, but for washing the car or watering the plants… If you use water that you boiled vegetables with or saved rainwater, this could be reused much more economically in other ways. You could use the boiled water to wash your car or use rainwater for your plants. It wouldn’t hurt the plants as they’re used to rainwater and it is much more natural for them too.

We hope that our tips have given you a thought on how you can cut down on the water usage in your home. Not only that, we’d love to know how much it has saved you too. We are more than confident to say that in some way or another it will have saved you money, from using less power to providing more quick and efficient ways to do your day-to-day duties.
